Basic Concepts
Liposuction is a surgical method that employs a cannula, a small tube, to extract fat deposits via suction after breaking them up. Different techniques like tumescent, super-wet, ultrasound-assisted, or laser-assisted liposuction can be used during the procedure. Multiple liposuction sessions may necessitate the utilization of these techniques across several scheduled procedures.

Multiple liposuction sessions
Multiple liposuction sessions means divide the liposuction treatment into 2 or 3 sessions to ensure safety and quicker recovery, regardless of the patient’s weight. At Fresh Clinic, we use sleeping sedation instead of general anesthesia, resulting in lower risks of post-anesthesia complications. This allows us to perform body contouring treatments in a safer environment, eliminating the need to do full body liposuction in one session. The method differs from gradual liposuction.
Gradual liposuction
Gradual liposuction involves extracting fat in multiple stages to achieve optimal slimming results.
Unlike multiple liposuction sessions, this approach is ideal for severely overweight patients who cannot undergo a single-session liposuction due to the high risk of skin sagging at the treatment site.
Additionally, there is a waiting period of 2-3 months between sessions to allow the tissues to heal before the surgeon can perform another liposuction session.

Why should I process multiple liposuction sessions?
Patient Question

What is the maximum number of areas that can be treated with liposuction at one time?
Can 10 areas of liposuction be done within a week by splitting them into 5 areas on separate days, waiting a day, and then completing the other 5 on day 3? I am 163cm tall and weigh 68kg.
The largest area to be treated is my buttocks, while the other areas require smaller amounts of fat removal, including my lower abdomen, flanks, lower back, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, calves and ankles, and mons pubis.
Is it feasible to perform these procedures within one week if they are split into two surgeries? I am a healthy 32-year-old. Thank you.
Dr.Hong’s Answer
It is common to have liposuction performed on multiple areas in a single day. The concern is not the number of areas, but rather the amount of fat being removed. If you are having the procedure done as an outpatient, it is recommended not to exceed 5 liters of pure fat removal. If you are staying overnight in the hospital, there is no specific limit, but typically the volume is limited to around 10-12 liters. Higher volumes may require a blood transfusion before leaving the hospital.

If you choose to split the surgery into two operations, it is usually recommended to wait about 2 weeks between surgeries to allow swelling to subside. In my opinion, for full body liposuction, dividing it into upper and lower body and performing the surgeries in two sessions is preferable. This reduces the risk of fatigue, complications, and the need for a blood transfusion. Despite undergoing anesthesia and two separate operations, I believe this approach is safer than attempting an impractical single-session surgery.
